  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups finely chopped apples (preferably Granny Smith)
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon turbinado sugar (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a loaf pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, and spices.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time and mix in vanilla.
  4. Gradually combine dry ingredients with sour cream in the butter mixture.
  5. Fold in the chopped apples and nuts gently.
  6. Pour batter into prepared pan and sprinkle with turbinado sugar.
  7. Bake for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Cool for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
