Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound bread (white bread, ciabatta, or baguette)
  • 1 cup butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 large onion (about 3 and 1/2 cups chopped)
  • 2 cups celery (1/4 inch dice)
  • 1/3 cup fresh parsley (chopped)
  • 1/4 cup fresh sage (chopped)
  • 2 cups chicken or turkey broth
  • 2 large eggs
  • Kosher salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 250°F. Tear the bread into bite-sized pieces and bake on a dry pan for about an hour until toasted but not browned.
  2. Dice the onion and chop the celery. In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and sauté the onion and celery for about 7–10 minutes.
  3. Chop the fresh herbs. In a large bowl, combine toasted bread, sautéed vegetables, herbs, salt, and pepper.
  4. Whisk together broth and eggs in a separate bowl. Pour over the bread mixture, gently mixing until absorbed.
  5. Grease a baking dish with softened butter, add the stuffing mixture evenly, cover with foil, and bake at 350°F for about 40 minutes. Remove foil and continue baking for an additional 25–35 minutes until golden brown.
