  • 2 1/8 cups (270 g) + 1 tbsp all-purpose flour, divided
  • 1/2 packet (4 g) activated yeast
  • 1/4 cup (45 g) granulated sugar, divided
  • 1/4 cup (25 g) Dutch-process cocoa powder
  • 2/3 cup (135 mL) dairy-free milk, unsweetened, room temperature
  • 1/4 cup (57 g) salted vegan butter, melted and room temperature
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/8 cup (43 g) dairy free yogurt, room temperature
  • 1/4 cup (67 g) vegan butter, room temperature, for filling
  • 1/2 cup (100 g) light brown sugar, for filling
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder, for filling
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon, for filling
  • 1/3 cup vegan chocolate chips, for filling
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder, for rolling the dough
  • 1/2 batch vegan cream cheese or 1/2 cup/113 g store bought vegan cream cheese, room temperature, for topping
  • 1 cup (120 g) powdered sugar, sifted, for topping
  • 1/3 cup (80 g) vegan chocolate, melted and cooled to room temperature, for topping
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder, for topping

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace by greasing a small casserole dish and measuring all ingredients.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, yeast, sugar, and salt. Add warmed dairy-free milk, yogurt, melted vegan butter, and vanilla to create a smooth dough.
  3. Knead the dough until smooth (about 10 minutes) and let it rise covered for 20-30 minutes until doubled in size.
  4. Prepare the filling by mixing room temperature vegan butter with brown sugar, cinnamon, and cocoa powder.
  5. Roll out the dough into a rectangle on a floured surface. Spread the filling evenly and sprinkle chocolate chips on top.
  6. Roll tightly into a log and slice into individual rolls. Place them in the prepared baking dish.
  7. Let them rise again while preheating the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Bake for about 30 minutes until golden brown.
