  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • â…“ cup water
  • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 tablespoon dried basil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 (15 ounce) container ricotta cheese
  • 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 9 oven-ready 'no-boil' lasagna noodles

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F. Grease a deep 9 x 13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a Dutch oven over medium heat, cook ground beef and onion until browned. Add minced garlic and tomato paste; cook for one minute.
  3. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, water, brown sugar, parsley, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer uncovered for about 10-15 minutes.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix the beaten egg with ricotta cheese and grated Parmesan cheese.
  5. Spread some meat sauce at the bottom of the baking dish. Layer three noodles followed by one-third of the ricotta mixture and one cup of mozzarella. Repeat this process two more times. Top with remaining meat sauce and cheeses.
  6. Cover with greased foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until bubbly.
