  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups milk (or plant-based alternative)
  • 1 tbsp black tea leaves (or 2 black tea bags)
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
  • a pinch of ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (or coconut cream for a vegan option)
  • 1 tbsp honey (or maple syrup)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix ground spices together and set aside.
  2. In a saucepan, combine water, black tea leaves/bags, brown sugar, and most of the spice mix. Heat until simmering.
  3. Reduce heat and stir in milk; let steep for about 5 minutes.
  4. Strain mixture into mugs to remove tea leaves and sediment.
  5. Whip heavy cream with honey and reserved spice mix until soft peaks form.
  6. Top chai latte with whipped cream and additional spices if desired.
