  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted & divided
  • 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tablespoon heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons dark cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons mini chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F and grease an 8×8 pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix the filling ingredients: brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and mini chocolate chips.
  3. In another bowl, sift together flour, sugars, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Create a well in the center; add buttermilk and two tablespoons of melted butter. Stir until soft dough forms.
  4. Knead gently on a floured surface for about 5-6 times, then roll into a rectangle (10×14 inches).
  5. Spread remaining melted butter over dough and sprinkle with the filling mixture.
  6. Roll the dough tightly from the shortest side and slice into nine even pieces.
  7. Place rolls in the prepared pan and drizzle with leftover melted butter before baking for 20-22 minutes until golden brown.
  8. For the frosting, beat cream cheese and heavy cream until smooth; gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder.
  9. Frost the warm rolls and enjoy!
